Forager Brewing - Rochester, MN6/24/2022 Get to know your brewers @foragerbrewery.
Say hello to Paul, Jake and Francisco. They are the perfecta trifecta of brewing at Forager Brewing in Rochester, MN. • Forager opened its doors in September of 2015. • Paul has been home brewing since 2009, with previous stints @theherkimerpub and bottling @rushriverbrewery. Jake has been with Forager for three years. Francisco joined Forager recently and is the head of crowlering. • The first beer Paul brewed at Forager was a Belgian (he’s not sure which), but positive it was a Belgian because their glycol system wasn’t installed yet. For Jake, Urban Hops IPA, and for Francisco, their Puebla Especial. • Forager brews on a 7bbl system with an oversized mash tun and kettle. They have the equipment for 10bbls if necessary. • Paul loves to brew Pilsners, hands down. Jake prefers Belgians (he loves the character you can coax out of it). Francisco prefers light and refreshing Lagers. • The most challenging thing operating a brewery for Paul has been managing the home/work balance the first few years. The hours can be erratic. Jake believes maximizing space is their hardest challenge—you have to get creative. • Future plans include getting creative and pushing the boundaries of their already award-winning brews. You have to stop on by to see what’s next! • A great reason to visit Forager is their large selection of house AND guest beers—and also their delicious cuisine. Yes, they are a brew pub that’s open early and serves up some of Rochester’s best food. • Favorite crushable lawnmower beers? Paul—All Day IPA from @foundersbrewing. Jake—Hamm’s (naturally). Francisco—Modelo Especial. • When they’re not brewing, you can catch these guys doing anything dog related or cooking (Paul), working at the theater or writing (Jake), and spending time outdoors and with friends and family (Francisco). Stop on in to Forager and take in their delicious brews alongside some mouth-watering food. Catch some live music on their spacious patio, and say hey to these three guys if you see them.

Bad Weather Brewing - St. Paul, MN6/15/2022 Get to know your brewer @badweatherbrew.
Meet Andy. Lord of Lagers, lover of bikes and brews, and head brewer at Bad Weather Brewing in St. Paul, MN. • Bad Weather opened its spot in St. Paul on October 9th, 2015. However, they technically started in 2013, brewing at a different facility. • Andy started brewing professionally ten years ago. His first years were at Lucid Brewing (now @inboundbrewco). He also home brewed for several years before taking the professional plunge. • Their Smash Pale Ale, was the first beer he brewed at Bad Weather—utilizing Pale Ale malt and Cascade hops to make an easier first turn. • Bad Weather brews off a three vessel 20bbl brewhouse from @abeequipment. They can brew single, double, and even triple brews in a single day—thanks to 20bbl, 40bbl, and 60bbl fermenters. • His favorite style to brew? Their Helles. The Munich Helles was the first beer recipe he formulated. It’s the perfect style to showcase malt in beer. • The hardest challenge for Andy has been navigating the pandemic. It’s still an ongoing battle as many brewers out there can empathize. With full tanks at the shutdown, their crowler seamer went bust. Thanks to @waldmannbrewery next door, they were able to fulfill orders. Big shout out to their neighbors for the assist! • Some future plans include Andy toying with a Cold IPA. They also have a collab with their amazing neighbors, Waldmann. Also, their Hefeweizen and Gose are making a return after a year hiatus. • A plethora of beer choices is a great reason to stop by (always 14-16 beers on tap). They have trivia on Wednesdays, food trucks nearly every night, and a spacious taproom with large garage doors to bring that outside feeling in. • Andy’s favorite crushable lawnmower beer is Miller High Life. Sprinkle in some @grainbeltbeer and Bitburger Pils too. • When he’s not brewing, you can catch him hanging with his wife and two daughters. He loves his cabin in Wisconsin where he enjoys riding and racing bikes. He was a bike mechanic for 15 years before getting into brewing. 🚲 Stop on by Bad Weather and enjoy their multitude of mouth-watering beers! A-Side Public House - St. Paul, MN6/1/2022 Get to know your brewer @asidepublichouse. Meet Tim. Master of malt mayhem and warlock of Weissbiers. He’s the head brewer at A-Side Public House, a new brew pub in St Paul, MN. • A-Side opened its fire doors (it’s a former fire station from the late 1800s) in August of 2021. • Tim’s been brewing for six years, with stops @brewandgrow, @freehousempls and @blackstackbrewing. • The first beer he brewed at A-Side was an American IPA with Cascade and Centennial hops. He keeps it classy. • The local community has had an active interest in seeing this fire station renovated. Now that it’s open, locals have been coming out to support A-Side to enjoy its amazing beers, full bar, coffees and some of the best food in the city! • Tim loves making Lagers. He loves a style that time makes better—it feels like alchemy experiencing a beer slowly changing. • The hardest challenge for Tim has been starting a brewery from scratch. Supply chain issues, grain removal, water pressure, chemical suppliers—it was difficult, but he feels locked in now. • Future plans for the brewery include these beers coming up: Kölsch collab with @dualcitizenbrewing, a Cold IPA, a Munich Dunkel with @waldmannbrewery, a passion fruit mojito Sour, and a Coffee Sour with @thegetdowncoffeeco! • A great reason to stop by A-Side is to experience amazing beer and food in a fire station—especially when the large doors are open. Try the burger. • Tim’s favorite lawnmower beer is Utepils Munich Helles, Insight’s Avant, or Fair State/Schell’s Union Lager. He has a sophisticated lawnmower beer palate. • When he’s not brewing, you can catch Tim napping on his couch. He loves pickle ball, D&D, disc golf (so cliché for a brewer), and calcing damage on Pokémon Showdown. Stop on by A-Side and say hey! It’s a great stop for brunch, lunch and dinner. |
